The Sports Medicine Association of Serbia (SMAS) is a national professional organization established in 1995. and dedicated to the advancement of sports medicine through research, education, and the promotion of physical activity. SMAS brings together specialists in sports medicine, physicians from related medical disciplines, and sports professionals involved in athlete health protection and performance enhancement.

SMAS has strong expertise in the medical, scientific, and psychosocial aspects of sport, with particular focus on athlete health, mental well-being, and safeguarding. Through continuous education for medical staff and coaches, the development of professional guidelines, and scientific research, the association actively contributes to improving safety standards in sport.

In recent years, SMAS has placed increasing emphasis on ethical issues and athlete protection, including the prevention of abuse and sexual harassment in sport. Influenced by international cases and emerging evidence, SMAS members have been involved in initiatives addressing misconduct, safeguarding policies, and education to recognize, prevent, and respond to inappropriate behavior within the sports environment.

Within the COVIS project, SMAS contributes its medical and scientific expertise, experience in education and research, and a long-standing collaboration with sports organizations and institutions. As project coordinator, SMAS plays a key role in project management, research, and the development of evidence-based educational resources to create safer, fairer, and more inclusive sport for young athletes.
